Trading posts are retailers where goods can be traded for other goods. Trading posts were once primarily used as spots where peoples from two different cultures could trade items. Trading posts were also places where people who produced one kind of item could trade it for another. Trading posts were common in the old west. At some modern trading posts goods can still be traded for goods but money is also accepted. Other “trading posts” are not really trading posts but are stores that specialize in selling the sort of items that were once sold at old west trading posts or in items that are in the spirit of the type of items that were sold at the old trading posts. Trading posts often sell items like Indian art, Native American art, fur clothing, and western art. Some trading posts are located on Indian reservations and specialize in cigarette and firework sales.
